DOOLITTLE, Mo. -- Three vehicles were totaled in a 6-vehicle wreck in Phelps County that sent one man to a hospital Sunday afternoon around 2:45 p.m., according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
The crash happened when a semi truck on Interstate 44, 14 miles west of Rolla, tried to avoid stopped traffic, drove into the median and jack knifed. The semi returned to I-44, struck four other vehicles and overturned in the median.
A Jeep was also hit by a truck that the semi struck.
The three totaled vehicles were towed from the scene. Two other vehicles had minor damage and a third had moderate damage.
The man driving the truck was taken by ambulance to Phelps County Regional Medical Center.
The Phelps and Pulaski County Sheriff's Departments and Doolittle Fire Department also responded to the wreck.
According to the Doolittle Rural Fire Protection District's Facebook page, they responded to nine vehicles and triaged 46 patients in 15 minutes.
Five of the nine vehicles were pulling campers, the Facebook post said.
