SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — A Missouri State University student jumped out of a second floor window Tuesday afternoon after his apartment building caught on fire.

It happened on the corner of Kimbrough and Harrison near campus around 4 p.m. Tuesday (4/25).

The student was on the roof when firefighters arrived.  Using the ladder, he climbed down on his own.

One firefighter was evaluated at the scene for heat stress.

The fire was under control about an hour later.   It’s not clear how many people live in that building.

Firefighters say the attic and the second floor sustained the most damage.

The building will be inhabitable for some time.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
