Spotty showers and thunderstorms focused across Southwest Missouri and Northwest Arkansas Monday afternoon. A few of the stronger storms produced hail up to nickel size. Monday afternoon’s round of hit-or-miss storms have mostly faded away and that will open the door to a quiet moon-filled night.

Drier weather is in store for the area Tuesday. Comfy cool early morning temperatures will warm quickly under mainly sunny skies. Afternoon temperatures will generally be in the upper 80s, but it won’t be too humid. The risk for any spotty shower activity will be reserved for areas near and west of I-49.

Rain chances will perk up again Wednesday into Thursday as another weak backdoor front moves through. Rain chances will be focused toward Central Missouri Wednesday afternoon into the evening and across Southwest Missouri and Northwest Arkansas Thursday. As we’ve seen over the past week, locally heavy rain, frequent lightning, and gusty winds are all possible.

Wednesday will come with hot afternoon highs near 90°. Thursday will come with more cloud cover and this will help temper the heat with highs generally in the low to mid-80s.

Dry weather returns for most of the area Tuesday into Wednesday. We’ll be turning our attention northeast as another backdoor front slides toward the area. Rain chances will head higher Wednesday afternoon into the evening closer to Central Missouri ahead of this feature.

Rain will perk up further south and southwest Thursday as the front continues to push southwest. There should also be more cloud cover with the front and this will help trim back some of the afternoon heat.

Drier and slightly cooler air will once again flood the area by Friday making for a quiet and comfortable finish to the week.

Looking ahead to next weekend, there will be a bit of a shift in the pattern. Rain chances appear to climb Saturday into Sunday as another cool front drops in from the north. This should lead to more widespread rain chances, especially Sunday. The overall pattern looks a little more active (better rain chances at times) throughout the second full week of June.
