WASHINGTON, D.C. (CBS) - Lawmakers converged on Capitol Hill today, where tackling the opioid crisis has become a bipartisan effort.
Missouri representative Vicky Hartzler was in Washington, where she explains more than 60 pieces of legislation are in the works to address opioid addiction including prevention, awareness and recovery.
But it may not come soon enough.
Rep. Vicky Hartzler says, "Nationwide, we're losing more people to overdoses per year than we lost in the entire Vietnam war. and that is just not acceptable. Think about it - 62,000 individuals died last year in 2017 from overdoses so we have got to address this crisis."
