MCDONALD COUNTY, Mo. – Matthew Bowman was charged with second-degree murder and armed criminal action in the 2015 death of Jim Tillery – a jury found him not guilty.
Bowman reportedly shot Tillery five times with an AK-47 rifle as Tillery sat in the driver’s seat of his truck while it was parked in the driveway of the house where Bowman was living.
Bowman and his two young sons were living with Tillery’s ex-wife at her home near Washburn. The couple had a pending protection order against Tillery, saying he made threats against both.
The jury ruled Bowman not guilty under Missouri’s Stand Your Ground Law, which sets the standard for self-defense as “a reasonable belief you are in imminent threat of serious injury or death.”
