SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -A St. Clair County man is accused of taking three children from the home of his estranged wife was taken into custody in Springfield Thursday morning after a pursuit with Missouri State troopers and Greene County deputies.

According to court documents, Arthur F. Zschintzsch had been charged with three counts of child abduction, a class E felony, one count of tampering with a motor vehicle, a class D felony, one count of 1st degree burglary, a class B felony, and one count of violation of order of protection for an adult.

St. Clair County Sheriff Lee Hilty said Zschintzsch took the children about 7:30 a.m. and their location was not known until he was located in Springfield.

A Greene County Deputy joined the Missouri State Highway Patrol in pursuing the suspect involved in an order of protection violation and parental kidnapping in St. Clair County.

The brief pursuit ended in north Springfield due to dangerous traffic conditions but resumed when Greene County Deputies spotted the vehicle on West Kearney Street.

Zschintzsch failed to stop for deputies, and they continued to follow him while a nearby Missouri State Highway Patrol aircraft began to track the suspect from the air.

Zschintzsch abandoned the vehicle off-road and fled on foot with the children.

Deputies quickly arrested the suspect and recovered the children, ages 9, 11, and 15, safely.
