UPDATE 12/28 — Investigators confirmed that the fatality was accidental.
Cora Scott, a spokesperson for the Springfield Police Department, said that the investigation is still underway, but “at this point there appears to be nothing suspicious in nature.”
The age of the juvenile has not yet been released.

SPRINGFIELD, MO.- The Springfield Police Department has announced that they are investigating the shooting death of a juvenile.
According to an SPD news release, the shooting happened at the 4300 block of West Helen. Police said they were called out to a residence around 12:30 p.m. Dec. 27 for a well-being check.
