MOUNT VERNON, Mo. - A Lawrence County Sheriff’s Deputy suffered scrapes and abrasions in a Sunday evening altercation with an inmate at the county jail during which the deputy was shot with her own Taser device.
Sheriff’s office spokesman Lt. Doug Bounous said the deputy had broken up a fight in one of the jail’s cells and was attempting to put leg cuffs on one of the inmates when that man attacked her and was able to take her Taser from her.
She was wearing a protective vest at the time, so did not suffer Taser injuries, but was struck on the head and suffered other abrasions, Bounous said. She was treated and released at a local hospital.
After the attack, the deputy was able to contain the inmate until backup was able to subdue.
Additional charges are being sought in connection with the attack, he said.
