SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — ICE is slamming a New Jersey county jail for a triple murder that took place in Springfield.
Luis Perez, 23, and two others have been charged with two murders that took place Halloween night.
Perez is also charged with another murder that happened the next day.
Federal officials said in a news release that Perez is a Mexican national who was in the country illegally.
He was at the Middlesex County Jail in New Jersey last December for domestic violence.
Perez was released in February — but the “sanctuary” jail did not notify ICE.
Federal agents say the murders could have been avoided had the county jail not ignored an ICE detainer, which would have helped deport Perez.
