Fifth Republican Lawmaker Calls for Greitens to Step Down

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo.--Another Republican has joined the growing list of lawmakers calling for Missouri Governor Eric Greitens to resign amid allegations he blackmailed a woman after having an extra-marital affair with her in 2015.

State Senator Robert Schaaf is the fifth GOP lawmaker speaking out against Greitens.

Here's what he had to say Tuesday on the Senate floor.

"It was going to be hard enough to govern with the allegations of blackmail and assault," said Schaaf(R-34th District). "But now that it has been revealed that Lucinda Luetkemeyer, your chief counsel, tried to cover up the story, you have made governing impossible. Her salary is paid by the taxpayers, and no matter how you spin it, you cannot escape the stench of cover-up.So, governor, I'm asking you, please resign."

While Greitens has admitted to the affair, he continues to deny the allegations of blackmail.
