SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — One man is dead and another is injured following an early morning shooting in south Springfield.

Officers responded to a shots fired call in the 1400 block of West Berkeley Street around 12:30 Friday morning. Upon arrival, officers found a man with a gunshot wound. The man is hospitalized in stable condition.

According to a media release, a 911 call stated an involved party left the scene of the shooting driving an SUV. The SUV was located at Sunset and Grant.

Officers responded to the location and found the driver of the SUV was Cole Marcinek, 24, of Springfield. Marcinek was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Springfield Police Department Homicide Unit is investigating the incident and has identified all involved parties.

No arrests have been made at this time.

Frank Lambert, a man who lives near where the shootings occurred, said the southwest Springfield neighborhood is normally a quiet one.

“There’s really not a lot that goes on over here as far as crime goes,” Lambert said. “So that’s why a lot of people are kind of upset and worried about something like that happening so close.”

Lambert said many neighbors are feeling uneasy after being awoken by police lights and sirens.

“It feels dangerous to a lot of the people on this block, particularly our older people or disabled people,” Lambert said. “And they’re worried that it’s all creeping over this way, but it’s pretty much infested the entire city.”
