SPRINGFIELD, Mo.–A woman hit by a car near Sunset and Fremont Tuesday has died, according to the Springfield Police Department.
Police say the collision happened when the driver of a car, heading south on Fremont, ran a red light. After hitting the woman, the car then hit a tree in the backyard of a home on the corner of Fremont and Woodland making the car turn in the opposite direction.
Springfield Police Lt. Curt Ringgold says the driver was having a medical issue and left the road and hit the woman.
The driver is also suffering from injuries and is being treated at a nearby hospital. There was a passenger in the car who was also taken to the hospital.
Police are interviewing witnesses.
