BREAKING: Shots Fired at SPD Officer - Manhunt Underway

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- Law officers are spread out in a west Springfield neighborhood, looking for a suspect who fired shots at a Springfield police officer.

The shooting happened at College and Lexington.  A witness tells KOLR10 News the officer was attempting to pull over a pickup truck, when someone inside the truck fired shots toward the officer.

Police Lt. Tad Peters tells KOLR10 News there were two officers in the car, and neither was injured.

Peters says the truck sped off.  Captain Ben King says officers found the truck abandoned near Scenic and Western near the West ByPass.  A dozen or more patrol units are now searching that area for the suspect who is considered armed and dangerous.

Springfield R-12 School spokesperson Theresa Bledsoe tells KOLR10 News children were brought in off the playground at Westport Elementary School as a precaution.
