JOPLIN, Mo. -- A drive-by shooting was reported at 11:27 p.m. Thursday.
Witnesses reported a dark SUV drove by a residence and a person in the SUV fired multiple shots.
According to a press release on the Joplin Police Department's Facebook, around 2 a.m. two detectives in an unmarked police vehicle were patrolling the area and stopped on the side of the road.
An SUV that matched witness description pulled up beside the detectives when someone in the SUV pointed an unknown object at the detectives and shouted.
When the detectives tried to make contact with the subjects, the SUV fled.
The vehicle was pursued by the detectives from Joplin, Missouri all the way to Labette County, Kansas, where the vehicle stopped.
The driver of the vehicle was taken into custody by the Labette County Sheriff’s Office.
In the vehicle were two adults and four juveniles.
Charges have been submitted to the Jasper County Prosecutor’s Office pending formal filing for felony resisting arrest by fleeing and four counts of endangering the welfare of a child. Three of the juveniles were released to a parent or guardian and one was transported to a detention center due to being reported as a runaway.
