Box Office Buzz - March 8, 2018

Hello Movie Maniacs!

New in theaters this weekend:
The very anticipated A WRINKLE IN TIME (WALT DISNEY PICTURES) hits the big screen!   After the disappearance of a girl's scientist father, three peculiar beings travel across the universe to rescue him from terrible evil.  Oprah Winfrey, Reese Witherspoon, and Mindy Kaling star along with many more in this FIRST major motion picture adaption of this BEST selling novel since the 2003 television film adaptation.

Also out, THOROUBREDS (FOCUS FEATURES) Two upper-class teenage girls in suburban Connecticut rekindle their unlikely friendship after years of growing apart. Together, they hatch a plan to solve both of their problems --- no matter what the cost.  Sadly, this was Anton Yelchin's final film before his untimely death in June of 2016 at the young age of 27.  This film is being touted at HEATHERS meets AMERICAN PSYCHO, two excellent cult classics.

Tops at the box office last weekend:
BLACK PANTHER is STILL holding the world in the palm of its hand!!!  RED SPARROW follows with an INCREDIBLE performance by  Jennifer Lawrence in such a very smart and twisty film.  And, DEATH WISH lands at number three … Bruce Willis kicks it still!

New on Blu-Ray this week:
THOR:  RAGNOROK (WALT DISNEY PICTURES) - Thor is imprisoned on the other side of the universe and finds himself in a race against time to stop the destruction of his home world and the end of civilization, at the hands of an all-powerful new ruthless threat.  Bringing comedy into this super hero world was THE RIGHT THING TO DO … this is a GREAT and highly recommended ride!

On the local film scene … We are so close to finalizing our films for the Ratedsgf Film Fest!  This is a brand new and original film festival in downtown Springfield … it's one day only on March 31st, we are just weeks away!  I'm a very tiny, tiny part of the film selection committee.  Take a look at to our Facebook page for the link to get tickets for this one day exclusive event!  Find it on Facebook … @ratedsgf!!!

Oscar Review:
The 90th Annual Academy Awards were announced last weekend!   Well … almost all of my picks were correct!  Sam Rockwell and Frances McDormand won for for THREE BILLBOARDS OUTSIDE EBBING, MISSOURI … Gary Oldman won for DARKEST HOUR and Allison Janney won for I, TONYA … but, they grabbed the wrong envelope again this year and read SHAPE OF WATER instead of THREE BILLBOARDS.  Till next year's award season …
