SPRINGFIELD, Mo Hello Movie Maniacs!  NEW this week … the much-anticipated MISSION:  IMPOSSIBLE - FALLOUT (PARAMOUNT)!

Ethan Hunt and his IMF team, along with some familiar allies, race against time after a mission gone wrong.  In this 6th installments, this film had 3,000 set-ups … 13 helicopters … 5 hiatuses … 4 weeks of aerial photography … 3 continents … 2 winters and of course one infamous broken ankle!  Cruise trained for an entire year to perform the HALO (High Altitude Low Opening) stunt in this film.  Aside from Mr. Cruise, Ving Rhames has starred in all of the MISSION:   IMPOSSIBLES!  Henry Cavill joins the cast this time around, funny thing, he had replaced Cruise in THE MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E. in 2015.

I do NOT think it is ANY secret at this point that I get excited over a Tom Cruise release!  I have loved TC since 1981's TAPS … he's made some of THE BEST movies of our day with INCREDIBLE directors … I had the amazing fortune to have lunch in his office in May of 2009 and we chatted about the marketing of movies … he's ultra-talented, puts money behind his movies, has a very strong work ethic and gives his all!  He's just cool, I promise you this!

ALSO ON SCREENS, TEEN TITANS GO! TO THE MOVIES (WARNER BROS.) A villain's maniacal plan for world domination sidetracks five teenage superheroes who dream of Hollywood stardom.  This is an animated fare with vocals from Nic Cage, Kristen Bell, Will Arnett and so many more!

TOPS AT THE BOX - Denzel in his role the second time around in EQUALIZER 2 edged out MAMMA MIA:  HERE WE GO AGAIN!  EQUALIZER 2 is actually a really good ride!  Denzel is always excellent.  AND, MAMA MIA is definitely a fun - feel-good time!

Brand new on Blu-Ray this week is READY PLAYER ONE (WARNER BROS.) - When the creator of a virtual reality world called the OASIS dies, he releases a video in which he challenges all OASIS users to find his Easter Egg, which will give the finder his fortune.  Steven Spielberg brought this creation to the big screen, so, I hope you saw it there first!

The OUTDOOR MOVIES AT FOUNDERS PARK in Downtown Springfield are coming to a close!  Friday night is family night this week with COCO … I had the privilege to interview one of the co-creators of this film on the blue carpet at the Critics' Choice Awards!  And, Saturday night is date night with STAR WARS THE LAST JEDI!  Movies begin at sundown … ADMISSION IS FREE!  Much more info and to see the Summer schedule go to park board-dot-org-backslash-movies!
