SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - The new Baby Hub is open at the Springfield Dream Center. It's a partnership of several different baby-based organizations, and it's providing resources to parents in need right at their fingertips.
Four determined women each previously worked in their own corner of the Ozarks, have now come together to create a hub for new parents.
"We realized that a lot of our families that need resources have trouble with transportation and a lot of the agencies that provide these resources are across town," Jill Bright, the Executive Director of Diaper Bank of the Ozarks said.
Though baby hub is still finding its legs, Bright says its foundation is strong.
"They already come here Wednesday nights for community dinners and that'll be one of the times that we're offering classes," she said.
The diaper bank and Pregnancy Care Center will still operate out of their main locations, but have also established satellite services at the Baby Hub. Pregnancy Care Center CEO Lisa McIntire already has classes crawling along.
"We've seen a lot of success with giving them those tools and those aha-moments to say, maybe this isn't how I was raised, or how I've seen relationships done, but I can try that," McIntire said.
And that is exactly what Baby Hub Director Pati Emerick says is the goal.
"It's not just sitting in a classroom being lectured, it's actually building community, giving them these things and letting them work on it hands on with each other," she said.
With the right leaders, classes, food and diaper resources ready to go, only one woman could complete this dream team - Jody Glazner, the Executive Director for the Springfield Dream Center, which provides the venue.
"We just exist to love a neighborhood, and people," Glazner said. "What we look for...what are the needs we need today and we call that 'help for today' and what's the encouragement that they need keep going in life and we call that 'hope for tomorrow.'"
