SPRINGFIELD – Over the weekend, a World War One memorial was vandalized in Springfield.
The parks department was notified on Sunday that the one-ton memorial in Grant Beach Park had been knocked over.
Because the memorial is so heavy, it will take heavy equipment to fix it.
The parks department says they are waiting to fix the memorial, but it is not to be disrespectful. The machinery needed to fix the memorial would tear up the ground, so the parks department is waiting for things to dry up.
It could take a few days because more rain is expected tomorrow. This is not the first time the memorial has been knocked down.
