DOOLITTLE, Mo. — One person has died in the opening weekend of the Missouri firearms deer season, but it was not from a gun mishap.
Authorities in Phelps County say Mary Eaton, 45, of Herculaneum, Missouri, was found dead Sunday evening after falling from a tree stand on U.S. Forest Service land.
Phelps County coroner Andy Davis says Eaton was found several hours after the fall from the stand, which was about 20 feet off the ground.
Davis says Eaton had come to Phelps County for the past several years for deer season.
The Doolittle Fire Protection District says the location of the accident was off Highway P, several hundred yards off in the woods.
Phelps County Sheriff’s Detective George Arnold said there were no signs of foul play.
