SPRINGFIELD — The Sheriff’s Department and other local businesses surprised Kim Roberts with a dream backyard.
The relationship between Kim Roberts and the Greene County Sheriff’s Office has grown strong since the passing of Deputy Aaron Roberts.
Roberts was a husband and father who valued family time, especially at his own home.
Knowing that, the department reached out to Michael Ormsby and The Deck Company to do something special for the Roberts family.
“It was a no brainer. We jumped right on it. We planned this about a month out. Connected all the dots, we showed up on Friday and got to work,” Ormsby says.
With the help of several local companies donating time and supplies, the plan was to turn a once ordinary yard, into something that looks like it came right off the page of a magazine.
So Kim and 7-year-old Lydia took a trip out of town for the weekend, and two days later they came home to something incredible.
“She has an idea that we did the backyard, but she has no idea what we’ve done,” says Ormsby.
The Roberts’ arrived home to find a fully furnished backyard, complete with a hot tub, a new deck, a fire pit, furniture, and two gardens: One for mom, and one for Lydia.
Kim says the backyard has always been a bit of a sanctuary for her family.
“We loved having family over all the time. We never really got opportunites often to do it, but when we did, we loved having the backyard filled with family and friends,” Roberts says.
With a full summer ahead, Kim says it may be hard to stay inside at all, and she couldn’t be more thankful for this gift.
“Our Sheriff’s department is a very special department. The businesses in this community are special, and I am forever grateful,” says Roberts.
The Greene County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank several businesses for their time and donations for this project:
- The Deck Company
- E&M Electric
- Home Depot
- Spring River Turf
- Ruff Life Dog Treats
- B&B Siding
