SPRINGFIELD, Mo- Walmart has announced that they will close 269 of their stores and four of them are here in the Ozarks.
“Well I was very surprised because it hasn’t been over for very long and Clever is a small town and they were very excited about getting a Wal Mart out here and I live in Nixa…So I stopped here on my way home from taking my great niece home, which lives here. Thought I’d stop here to pick up a few things before I headed home an told me they were closing on the 28th.. I just can’t believe it,” says shopper Ginger Quick
Walmart has been actively looking at all of their assets and their performance since last fall to make sure everything aligned with current strategy. Today’s action follows a thorough review of Walmart’s nearly 12,000 stores worldwide that took into account a number of factors, including financial performance.
“Well I shop local..I like Murfins, I grew up with Chuck Murfin, so I usually shop over there. I don’t come in here very often. I used to work for Wal Mart and a matter of fact just quit Wal Mart,” says Walmart shopper Kelly Vandyke.
Murfins, a locally owned store, hopes for a boom in business when the local Neighborhood Market shuts down.
“We are going to have to revamp the way we do things..I mean we are going to have to get more milk and more bread and more groceries on the shelves because of competition moving out there were several people over there shopping so I am sure we will get some of that business.”
Murfins has already started calling their vendors to get extra product in.
