ROLLA, Mo. — A man pulled from a vehicle engulfed in fire died early Monday morning.

A press release from the City of Rolla Fire and Rescue informed that fire crews responded to a vehicle fire in a parking lot at the Missouri Probation and Parole Office in Rolla, Missouri just after 9 a.m.

Fire crews discovered an unresponsive man had been rescued from the flaming vehicle by two bystanders. The bystanders performed CPR on the man and emergency services provided medical care to the victim who was transported to the Phelps County Regional Medical Center.

A follow-up investigation determined the man suffered a medical emergency inside the running vehicle. The victim became unconscious, his foot pressed against the gas pedal, and the engine accelerated to a high rate of RPM’s which caused the vehicle to overheat and catch fire.

No indications of foul play have been detected but the incident is still under investigation.

The release said the man was 46-years-old and resided in Rolla.
