SPRINGFIELD, Mo- So far three people have been arrested at home in North Springfield where Springfield Police are searching for a man suspected of murdering two people earlier this month.
The three people arrested so far are two men and one woman, those three have now been let go. None of the three arrested are Willie Haughton, who is a suspect in two recent murders, one occurring March 27, and the other on April 1.
Police tried multiple ways to get Haughton out of the home by ramming the home, trying to drive him out with tear gas, and then shooting out the windows of the home.
A stand-off is unfolding in north Springfield Thursday morning as police search for a man suspected of murdering two people earlier this month.
KOLR10’s Colin Lingo reports there are a number of police patrol cars near Kansas Expressway and Kearney, and officers are focused on a house near the Bolivar Road Apartments looking for Willie Haughton, confirmed SPD spokesperson Lisa Cox.
KOLR10 News spoke with neighbors in the area who say this is the second time this week police and armored cars have been in position near this house. One woman told us “maybe they’ll catch him this time.”
Haughton is a suspect in two recent murders, one occurring March 27, and the other on April 1.
On March 27, police were called to 1026 West Florida Street, just north of Commercial Street. Police say they found 30-year-old Lance E. Loveless, of Springfield, dead, slumped over the wheel of a car parked in the backyard with a gunshot wound.
And on Sunday, April 1, the body of Robert C. Hewitt, 49, of Springfield, was found in a vehicle behind a house at 1032 E. Commercial Street.
When police got there just before 3:00 p.m., they found Hewitt dead of an apparent gunshot wound. Both shootings are being handled as homicide cases.
Charges have not yet been filed in either homicide case and both investigations are ongoing.
