SPRINGFIELD – Starting tomorrow, preliminary work will begin for the Mount Vernon Street bridge replacement project.
Road crews will be working on utility relocations and tree removals near Mount Vernon Street, west of Kansas Expressway.
The project will also add sidewalks in the area, and increase stormwater capacity along Jordan Creek.
Construction officially begins in April, and Mount Vernon will be permanently shut down for 3 months. Expect some road closures periodically tomorrow.
And coming up this Wednesday, road crews will begin working on the ramps at the highway 60 and 65 interchange for guardrail replacement.
All of the work will be done from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. That project lasts several days.
