Two Kids Call 911 For House Fire in Springfield

SPRINGFIELD — Springfield firefighters responded to a house fire Saturday afternoon, and it was all thanks to two good Samaritans.

The fire started at a residence on the 2000 block of North Booneville Avenue Saturday afternoon.
The fire chief says the two-story home was full of flammable material, so it was hard to get under control as it spread from room to room.
However, it could have been worse if two little girls didn’t think on their feet.

“So we were just chasing after my cousin’s dog and we saw a bunch of smoke so we started running towards the house,” says pre-teen Angel Hernandez. who called 911.

Hernandez and her friend Ahnauri Holt described the situation where they were required to act fast.

“If there’s a person inside that house we need to do something about it because there’s always a cause and effect and like my teacher told me – there’s always a cause and effect and you need to help people in case it gets even worse,” Holt explains.

The fire is still under investigation. No one was home at the time of the fire.
