Tornado Proof Home Now on the Market

TANEY COUNTY, Mo. — Storms are coming into the Ozarks as early as next week.

Missouri can be hit hard by severe weather as spring turns into summer.

Just in time for the season, the world’s first tornado proof cabin is now on the market in the Ozarks.

The close to 800-thousand-dollar home is part of a new development called “The Cabins at Maple Rock.” located just north of Branson in Taney County.

“You know it’s such a different project. It’s so unique, most people never have…really  nobody has seen anything like this, cuz it hasn’t been done before,” said Dane Braden, who heads up sales and marketing for The Cabins at Maple Rock.

Braden says the 1700-square foot, two bedroom, 3 bathroom, concrete, tornado proof home on Victor Church road in Taney County, has it all.

“The other thing that helps is the ceilings and the openness of the floor plan and this design,” Braden said, “It just has that airy spacious feeling. But it’s very cozy with this timeless look that he’s got going here.”

The cabin is insulated with six inches of concrete on the outside and four inches of foam insulation in the middle — with two more inches of concrete on the interior of home. The rood is made from industrial grade weathering steel. The same kind used to build highway bridges.

“Structurally, the home does not need any of this timber framing. But he did it anyway, so that it would be true to the look,” said Braden

While this home was built for endurance and efficiency, the inspiration behind the creation is legacy.

“The tornado proof  and the fire proof and the pest proof, all of those aspects are fantastic. But, what he was trying to do more than anything else was build something enduring.” Braden says the home appeals to those looking for a home that will stand the test of time.

“All of the priorities change and they start thinking about the legacy that they’re going to leave. What am I going to leave behind when I go and what can I leave my family that will survive me,” said Braden.

The general public will get their chance to get a tour of the home on May 25th, at a special open house celebration.
