JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – A husband and wife from Theodosia have been sentenced in a child abuse case.

Missouri Attorney General Josh Hawley announced Wednesday that 55-year-old David Bauer and his wife, 33-year-old Tiffany, were sentenced to 15 and 10 years in the Missouri Department of Corrections, respectively, after being convicted of first-degree statutory sodomy in January 2018.

The abuse was brought to light when the 9-year-old girl told state workers that while she was staying at the Bauer’s home in Ozark County, she had engaged in sexual acts with David while Tiffany was present. The Missouri Division of Children’s Services initially got involved in April 2015 after the girl’s father received custody of the child and reported that she was not educated either through homeschooling or through public school while she was living with the Bauers in Ozark County from August 2014 to March 2015.

The Bauers denied the allegations, claiming the child was coached or coerced into reporting the abuse.

The case was investigated by the Ozark County Sheriff’s Department and Missouri Department of Social Services, Children’s Division. The case was tried by Deputy Attorney General Darrell Moore and Assistant Attorney General Travis Lillie with assistance from investigator David Southard and Victim Advocate Melissa Koetting.
