The Man who Shot a Highway Patrol Trooper now Faces 12 Charges

WRIGHT COUNTY, Mo- The man who shot a Missouri State Highway Patrol officer is now facing one dozen charges.

Colby Rey is facing:

  • 4 Charges of 1st Degree Assault
  • 6 Charges of Unlawful use of a weapon
  • One Charge of resisting/interfering with arrest for a felony
  • One Charge of Armed Criminal Action

Colby M. Rey, 32, of Orlando, Florida. According to a press release from the Highway Patrol, Rey is wanted by the Mississippi Department of Corrections for a parole violation on a weapons offense. 

On Wednesday, July 18th,  Highway Patrol Trooper Robert D. Crewse responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle near Mansfield. When Crewse found the vehicle Rey was in it and when he asked Rey to exit the vehicle,  he became agitated and refused to comply.

More officers arrived at the scene and when that happened, Rey produced a handgun and began firing at the officers. The officers returned fire and Rey was hit several times.
