SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The Kitchen, Inc. will be celebrating the opening of its new shelter at the O’Reilly Family campus this week.
The ribbon cutting and housewarming celebration will be held on Thursday, November 8 with the festivities starting at 9 a.m. at the campus on the corner of Glenstone and Chestnut Expressway.
The shelter is phase one of the construction project at the campus. It consists of 13 apartments and one apartment for respite care. The shelter will help get single women, youth, and families off the street.
Once at the shelter, each person can then be directed toward the most appropriate housing option, whether that be permanent housing paid for by the individual or a program of The Kitchen, Inc. or other agencies and resources within the community. The goal is to be able to find permanent housing for people living at the shelter within 90 days. In 2017, The Kitchen, Inc.’s shelter assisted 91 people including 31 children.
Phase two of The O’Reilly Family campus includes the Sam and June Hamra Family support services building which will include space for 26 case managers, conference rooms and administrative offices. The building will also include an area for the Receiving and Distribution Center. Work is expected to begin on phase two in 2019.
