BUFFALO CITY, Ark. – The Baxter County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call of a man face down wearing a life jacket in the White River.

According to the Baxter County Sheriff’s Office, they received the call around 6 p.m. Wednesday evening. Witnesses told deputies first saw the man in his boat around 9:00 a.m., and he remained in that same area throughout the day.

Witnesses said they last observed the man around 4:00 p.m. moving around inside his boat, which was moored.

The operators of Riley’s Resort later went out to check on the man and the boat.  They found his body in the water and then called emergency services.

Deputies and other emergency personnel responded to the scene and took a boat over to the area where the body was found.

The man has been identified as 64-year-old Edwin Evans of Lone Rock.

The body is being sent to the Arkansas State Medical Examiner’s Office in Little Rock for an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
