SPRINGFIELD, Mo.–Kids in Southwest Missouri are gearing up for their upcoming athletic season by participating in the first annual CoxHealth Game On Expo. The event was held to help physically prepare the student athletes for competition.
The event took place at the Fieldhouse Sports Center in Springfield. It was designed to connect sports medicine providers with student athletes and their parents.
The expo featured information on injury prevention, proper nutrition, and free physicals.
In addition to gaining knowledge, kids could take part in a mock NBA combine, testing their skills in running and jumping.
There were also booths featuring skills on how to manage school and sports.
Some of the participants said one of the most important things they learned was how to properly take care of their bodies.
“There was stations about how to stay healthy when your busy and what right foods to eat and how to stay hydrated and to just like train your body to eat those kinds of foods cause it helps especially when your sweating in a game,” says participant, Ceely Young.
“I learned that it’s good to stay healthy and exercise and eat right foods and not just sit on the couch all day and like go outside, play around, do sports,” says participant, Chloe Burke.
CoxHealth says this was the first year of the expo and they plan on making it an annual event.
