SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — A Springfield man who says he only plays the Missouri lottery occasionally, walks away with one of the top prizes in a scratchers game.
The state lottery says Johnny Treese scratched off an Eclipse Cash ticket at a Springfield Kum n Go, and won $82,117. But at first, Treese thought he’d won $20,000 and excitedly called his wife.
“I scratched the bottom two numbers and saw $20,000,” Treese said. “So then I stopped scratching to call my wife and tell her I had just won $20,000.”
After the call, Treese finished scratching off the ticket and found out the prize was much larger.
In a Missouri Lottery news release, Treese says he and his wife don’t have any immediate plans for the money, but they do hope to do something fun as a family in the future.
There are still two more top prizes of $82,117 out there. The prize amount reflects the date of the upcoming solar eclipse on August 21.
