Springfield Hit and Run Driver Identified

News

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — The Springfield Police Department has identified the driver in the Dec. 16 hit and run crash on National Avenue and East Trafficway.

A press release from the police department Tuesday afternoon identified that the driver was Sierra Claxton, who was originally believed to be a passenger in the van which ran the red light, causing the collision with the silver 2010 Chevrolet Traverse.

“Many individuals were involved in the crash and there were also several rushing to the scene to help, which may have caused some confusion as officers gathered information from witnesses,” said the police department in their release.

Investigators of the crash were able to compile video evidence from local businesses which showed Claxton entering the driver’s seat of the maroon 1999 Plymouth van and driving away.

Claxton was questioned Tuesday and statements confirming that she was driving were obtained, according to the release.

Claxton is awaiting extradition to Pulaski County for the felony drug warrant she was arrested on just after the crash.

The passenger in the van injured in the crash, Shirley Ducker, is still hospitalized in critical condition.
