Shooting near Chestnut and Grant sends one to hospital



SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — The teenager accused in a deadly shooting in Springfield has turned himself into police.

We’ve been showing you 18-year-old Timber Porter’s picture since police identified him as a suspect in a shooting that happened around 5 p.m. yesterday.

When officers got to the scene near Brower Street and Grant Avenue, they found a man with a gunshot wound.

Police have identified the victim as 19-year-old Dearies Hempstead of Springfield.

He died at the hospital.

No charges have been filed against Porter, police are working with the prosecutor, we’ll bring you that information as soon as we get it.

UPDATE 3:47 p.m.: According to the Springfield Police Department Timber R. Porter turned himself in on Tuesday afternoon. Charges have yet to be filled. We are still waiting for Springfield Police to give us more information.

UPDATE: Police are looking for 18-year-old Timber R. Porter who is a suspect in the shooting.

He has red hair, brown eyes, weighs approximately 180 pounds and is 6’4″.

He could be driving a silver 2005 Chevrolet with license plate  MR7-N6B.

He is considered armed and dangerous.

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — One man is deceased after a shooting in Springfield today.

There is still a large police presence just north of Chestnut and Grand on the 600 block of West Brower Street.

The road is blocked and there is police tape up.

All we know so far is that there was a shooting at 4:50 p.m.

A man was transported to the hospital and passed away around 6 p.m.

According to the Springfield Police Department, investigators plan on working through the night to collect evidence.

We don’t know how the shooting happened but a neighbor, Bill Smith, said he didn’t expect this to happen.

“Sort of shocked. Hadn’t been much disturbance in the neighborhood besides guys coming by with their loud car stereos,” Smith said. “It happens. Nothing you can do about it. You just go on with your life and that’s it.”

The suspect in this shooting is still at large and we will update you with any new information.

The police are still investigating on the scene.

Police say the shooting happened at Chestnut and Grant around 4:50 p.m.

The extent of the man’s injuries is still unknown.
