Senator Blunt Reintroduces Battlefield Preservation Legislation

WASHINGTON D.C. – Senator Roy Blunt, Johnny Isakson of Georgia, and Tim Kaine of Virginia reintroduced the preserving America’s Battlefields Act

The act would reauthorize the Battlefield Land Acquisition Grants Program, which is a matching grants program that promotes the preservation of the Revolutionary War, War of 1812, and Civil War battlegrounds.

The grants are awarded by the American Battlefield Protection Program, and encourage state and private investment in battlefield preservation.

Ted Hillmer with Wilson’s Creek Battlefield says this grant is a way to help preserve history.

“They will tell the story, they’ll keep it alive,” Superintendent of Wilson’s Creek National Battlefield Ted Hillmer said. “And we get to keep these special places as they are for the next generation.”

There are 243 Revolutionary War and War of 1812 sites and 282 Civil War sites across the country that are part of preservation priorities by the National Park Service.
