WASHINGTON–The Senate budget committee approved the GOP tax plan Tuesday — clearing the way for a full Senate vote later this week.
Before that can happen though they need to win over a number of uncommitted senators.
That includes Missouri senator Claire McCaskill — who spoke today on the legislation.
She wants GOP leadership to work to compromise with Democrats.
“The way you get permanent tax reform is by getting more than 60 votes,” said McCaskill(D-Missouri). “And the way you do that is working in a bipartisan way. What we show here today is that that is possible. It is not only possible, it’s probable that that would occur if they would just work with us.”
And Wednesday, President Trump will be in Saint Charles, Mo — which is right outside of St. Louis to discuss tax reform.
Republicans argue the plan will increase pay for workers while Democrats argue the bill hurts the middle class and helps the wealthy.
