KANSAS CITY, KS (KCTV) – Emergency crews were on scene after a semi-truck went off an overpass on Interstate 670 and Interstate 70 in KCK.
The truck, which was heading eastbound, fell approximately 60 feet after going over the barricade.
The skid marks where it left the road are visible on the overpass.
A witness was waiting to pick up some railroad workers when he saw the truck fall from the highway.
He ran over to help the driver and said he was alert and conscious right after the crash.
Kansas Highway Patrol said he’s currently in serious condition.
“I can’t believe he’s alive,” said Bill Newcamp, the witness. “It’s not normal. Someone was looking after him. How can somebody survive that mangled mess?”
KHP said the semi was broken in three sections and that it could take hours to tow away the wreckage.
They are still investigating what led up to the truck going off the highway. They said no other cars were involved.
The truck appears to have been carrying lettuce and celery, or some kind of similar produce.
