See Our KOLR10 Founder’s Day of Caring Projects

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — In celebration of our parent company’s 20th anniversary, KOLR10 is joining the 4,500 employees of Nexstar Broadcasting around the country in a day of giving to the communities we serve.

KOLR10’s Nick Thompson is live at one of today’s work sites.

Here at KOLR10, we try to put the Ozarks first every day by telling your stories, but sometimes you’ve just gotta go out and show our dedication to the community.

Here today, I joined with some co-workers to paint this home in the 2000 block of North Main Avenue in north Springfield.
We worked with Habitat for Humanity on this one-day project.  We had about a dozen volunteers out here in the heat all day, putting pain on this historic home.

In just one day, we covered the chipped wood siding all over the home with a fresh new layer of white paint.

Aaron Norrick is Volunteer Coordinator for Habitat for Humanity. “We love when we have these one day projects where someone can see the beginning and the end all in one day. It’s really awesome for the volunteers to get to see what they’re hard work has done on that day even on a really hot day working out in the field.”

We’ve also had volunteers team up this week with the humane society of southwest missouri.
Our team has helped walk animals and clean out cages.

The humane society is working to become a “no-kill” shelter, so there’s always a lot of work to be done.
“It’s been great to see the people I see here at the studio here at the Humane Society,” says Donna Casamento, executive director of the Humane Society of Southwest Missouri. “We’ve got over 12 people that are giving all of their volunteer hours here and the majority of them have made a commitment to us above and beyond what Nexstar is asking them to do. We’ve got some dedicated long-term committed volunteers out of this program and this partnership that we have. And it’s going to help us do nothing but just save more lives.”

Nexstar Broadcasting employees across the country generated 20,000 hours of community service today and donated $20,000 to local charities.
