Scott County Fire Protection District adds humor to recruitment pitch

News

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. — One Missouri firefighter crew is taking a new approach at recruiting new members.

In Cape Girardeau, the Scott County Fire Protection District posted a sign that reads “hard labor — odd hours — low pay — and a cool helmet”

The fire district’s chief said they wanted to add some humor to the recruitment pitch and he was hoping it would catch people’s attention.

The chief says they are short about 15 firefighters and rarely have a full staff.

This shortage of volunteer firefighters is affecting many areas across the midwest.
