Scammer Posing as City Utilities Employee, Demanding Money

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — City Utilities is warning customers of a possible scam tonight.

CU made a social media post on Twitter saying someone is knocking on doors and posing as a CU employee.

The tweet says you might also get a fake phone call from City Utilities saying your electric meter needs to be changed.

The person will demand money and threaten to turn off your power if you don’t pay.

However, CU clearly stated that person is not a City Utilities employee.

They listed a possible phone number of the scammer, which is 417-241-6289.
