NEW YORK — It’s almost time to say goodbye to AOL instant messenger!
Yes, that’s still apparently a thing.
The chat service will shut down Dec. 15, after 20 years in service.
You probably remember it from the late 90s.
At the time, it was the peak of internet communications, when web access required a dial-up connection.
AOL’s parent company says the instant messenger failed to evolve with consumer needs, after the emergence of better apps and social media networks.
