SPRINGFIELD – Keeping women safe is the goal of the organization Safe to Sleep. Volunteers and community members learned more about the organization at an open house tonight and how they provide safety.
“Honestly we could not do this without our volunteers,” Kelly Harris, the Director Of Safe To Sleep said. “To be able to be open every night for 7 and a half years is pretty miraculous its because people have a passion for what we do and they’re willing to give up a few hours of sleep to keep 40 women safe every night of the year.”
Safe to sleep is hosted by churches across the area to help provide women a safe shelter overnight.
These are not cold shelters but are overnight for safety. They provide a place to sleep, bus tickets, help with minor medical issues and housing.
