SPRINGFIELD, Mo.–The Reeds Spring man charged in connection with a fatal hit and run in Springfield last month plead not guilty in court Wednesday.
40-year-old Shawn Bouley, of Reeds Spring, was charged with felony leaving the scene of an accident.
According to a probable cause statement filed along with a search warrant for parts of Bouley’s automobile, Bouley told investigators he was driving north on National Avenue at Cherry Street in Springfield when he struck something and continued to drive. He said, “he was scared because he had been consuming alcohol and knew there was a good chance that he struck a person ….”
Police obtained the search warrant and found on Bouley’s car various items, paint scrapings and possible evidence such as hair strands and bodily fluids from the windshield, hood and fender, the warrant states.
Damage to the car was consistent with having struck a person, the court document states.
According to witness reports, Bizzle was hit by a dark-colored vehicle that was traveling north on National at about 10:57 p.m. Sunday.
Springfield police continue to investigate the incident to determine if more charges need to be filed.
Bouley is due back in court on April 10.
