Police Detain Man Carrying Assault Rifle at Anti-Violence Rally

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — A man carrying an assault rifle was detained and released by Springfield Police officers at an anti-violence rally Sunday evening at City Hall.

After being detained, the man joined in the rally.

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Springfield Police officers detained an armed man Sunday at City Hall.

Police say they are now inspecting the firearm.

According to police, the man claimed to be “doing security for the rally.”

The anti-violence rally was in response to violence in Charlottesville, Virginia, after one woman was hit and killed by a car at a protest and two state troopers died in a helicopter crash.
