PHELPS COUNTY, Mo. — A Phelps County man who was to stand trial for first-degree attempted statutory rape and two counts of first-degree statutory sodomy, made an Alford plea yesterday, July 11.

Robert Branson, 38, who was accused of raping a minor multiple times will be sentenced at 10:30 a.m. on September 7, 2018.

An Alford plea means he claims he is not guilty, but knows there is enough evidence to convict him of the charges.

According to a news release sent by the Phelps County Sheriff’s Department, Branson was arrested on July 10, 2016, in Rolla, Missouri.

Police had been notified a juvenile female had been sexually abused between March 2011 and March 2016.

According to the probable cause statement, the victim said she was raped by Branson twice.

The sexual abuse began when she was 7, according to the victim.
