SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Springfield police are searching for a suspect who hit a pedestrian with their car, then fled the scene.

Investigators say it happened just before 11:00 p.m. Sunday night, at the intersection of National and Cherry near the Missouri State University campus.

Springfield Police Lt. Jennifer Charleston says someone hit a pedestrian in the intersection, before speeding away from the scene.

“We were dispatched to leaving the scene of an accident in reference to a pedestrian that was struck by a vehicle,” Charleston said.  “Witnesses called this into 911 from over by the Taco Bell. They said they just saw a dark colored vehicle that hit the pedestrian and left the scene.”

Officers say the victim was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.
