SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – If you are a teacher in Missouri or if you know a teacher, you’ll want to know this.
Through April 26, teachers can apply for funding for classrooms projects that they would otherwise have to pay for themselves or not be able to do at all.
Western Governors University, an online university, is funding these projects in honor of Teachers Appreciation Week coming up on May 6 – 10, that’s when the winners will be announced.
Jenifer Abreu talked to Dr. Angie Besendorfer, the chancellor of WGU about this program and how teachers can apply.
All teachers all welcome to apply: K-12 in public or private schools. Students, parents, and principals can also nominate a teacher. There are no specific requirements or guidelines, Dr. Besendorfer says she’s really just looking for unique projects, ideally ones that can be ongoing, but any ideas are welcome. There’s no cap on how many projects or how much WGU will pay for.

If you are already a teacher and want to further advance your higher education, or if you are looking to become a teacher, WGU is also offering two different scholarships. The deadline to apply for those is June 30.
