Ozark Fire Chief Heads to Arrowhead to Work the Mics

OZARK, Mo. — Fire chief by day — Kansas City Chief mic operator by “game” day.

Most know Darren White as the Ozark Missouri fire chief, but many might not know that for years White’s been a member of the team that lets you hear which play Mahomes is calling next.

White is a parabolic mic operator. You’ve likely seen these guys on the sidelines aiming what looks like a satellite dish at the line of scrimmage.

White is reporting for sideline duty this weekend for the AFC championship game.

It’s a moment he says he’s waited years for.

“You looking forward to Sunday?” asked a KOLR10 photographer.

“Absolutely,” White said. “You know I was kind of joking the other day that, I’ve been training for nine and a half years and I finally made it to the AFC Championship game. I’m going to do my part however small it may be to bring home that Lamar Hunt Trophy. Even if it is holding a microphone on the sideline, it’s sure fun to be a part of it.”
