LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – A North Little Rock woman has won $1 million from the Arkansas Scholarship Lottery (ASL).

ASL officials say Cindy Burton’s first reaction on getting the phone call that she had won the prize in its Play It Again® second-chance drawing game was that it was a scam.

“I have gotten calls before from people telling me things like I had won the Publishing Clearinghouse,” Burton said. “So I was very skeptical. However, the man from the lottery had given me his phone number so I could call back and verify that this wasn’t a joke. I had my brother call the number and sure enough it was the Arkansas Scholarship Lottery office.”

Burton said it is still sinking in that she actually won $1 million.

“I didn’t go to sleep until about 3 a.m. I kept tossing and turning – wondering what if it really is a scam. But I was going to go the lottery claim center in Little Rock, and was just hoping that they didn’t tell me I really didn’t win.”

Burton said her sister is an accountant so she plans to work with her on making the money last a long time although she plans to take her five grandchildren to Disney World. She plans to keep working, but her win will make life much better.

Burton’s win makes her the 56th Arkansas Scholarship Lottery-made millionaire. She simply entered her non-winning instant tickets into the lottery’s free Play It Again® Rewards Club at She has been a member of The Club for about six years.
