NIXA, Mo. – Nixa Junior High was filled with students flexing the culinary muscles Saturday.
The sixth Nixa Iron Chef featured the “Rockin Wrap” this year and the secret ingredient was beans.
The idea is to get kids excited about cooking.
The school’s Health Advisory Council came forward and the result helps create awareness for healthy living.
It’s become a hit among both the students and the staff.
“Cooking is just really fun. It’s like a hobby for me but this is putting it into reality and I get to show people like this is my passion and like what I get to do,” Kassidy Sexton, a seventh-grade student, said.
“We want kids to know that living healthy is actually fun and can be a really great thing and so by doing events that are positive that help kids learn. We feel like that’s the best approach to teaching our students to be healthy,” Kevin Kopp, executive director of Elementary Education, said.
Prizes were included but Kopp says they’re all winners because they’re learning life skills and having fun doing it.
